WHAT NOT TO EXPECT FROM COACHING

Over the past few weeks, I've been posting small snippets and videos of what NOT to expect during your next coaching session. Often times, people come into coaching expecting certain things and I have to correct their assumptions of what they will gain from a session with me. I hope the truths below give you all a better insight to what I do and what other coaches are prepared to do.

1. COACHES DON'T GIVE ADVICE

It's not our job to tell you what you ought to do, should do, or how to get from A to B. It is our job to help you develop the tools so that you have greater access to the answers for you.

2. A COACH IS NOT THERE TO PLEASE YOU

A coach is there to serve you and that means that they are going to share hard truths with you and challenge you when they believe it would benefit you. They're going to look at and uncover discrepancies in what you say and how you portray yourself.

3. COACHES DO NOT HELP YOU CHANGE THOSE AROUND YOU

If you're looking for someone to help you change those pesky people around you that bother you and make your life miserable, coaching is not for you. Coaching is about taking full responsibility for your part in whatever is happening in your life. Full responsibility requires that you look at the role you played in actually creating what is around you. When you're ready to look at changes you want to make through a lens of full responsibility, then you're ready for coaching.

4. COACHES DO NOT JUDGE

Coaches do a lot of work to open their hearts, listen deeply and not judge. Coaches believe everyone is naturally creative, resourceful and whole and that you do not need fixing. That said, there is no judgement at a coaching session.

5. A COACH WILL NOT DO THE WORK FOR YOU

Personal growth and development, leadership growth and development, it's tough work. It requires a certain level of self awareness and acceptance for where you are. It requires empathy and a real desire to see a change. This all requires effort on your part.

6. COACHES ARE NOT INDUSTRY EXPERTS

I have coached doctors, scientists and engineers without being an expert in any of those fields. I'm coaching the person beneath the profession, the person that we're trying to develop and grow. For that, coaches don't need to be an expert in the profession.

I absolutely love my job and it is my life's work to help people live more fulfilling lives both at work and at home. If you choose to have coaching in your life, it's important to know what to expect. For more information, please visit my website or contact me. I'd love to get a chance to speak with you!

Warmly,

Lisa
