Five to Thrive in leadership
Five to Thrive in Leadership
Take really good care of yourself.
Eat right. Workout. Get enough sleep. Drink lots of water. If you don’t take good care of yourself, you are not at your best and so can not give your best.
Listen before you talk.
Many leaders tell me that they talk even when they don’t have much to say so that their voice is heard. Inspiring leadership starts with listening and speaking up courageously when no one else is willing, not vice versa.
Adopt a continuous learning / growth mindset.
Instead of blame, seek to solve and learn. Instead of pointing outward, take full responsibility. Self-reflect. Self-evolve. Grow emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Inspire don’t direct.
Leaders create a vision that inspires others to find their intrinsic motivation. There is no need to micromanage because you’ve done the hard work of inspiration.
Adopt an “everyone is a leader” philosophy.
If you lean into this belief, you will focus on helping others evolve and grow, and allow others to evolve and grow you. You don’t need to have the answers. You simply need to ask good questions.
